AI semiconductor startup Agrani Labs has raised $8 million (around INR 73.4 crore) in a seed funding round led by Peak XV Partners. Several angel investors also took part in the round.
Along with the funding, Agrani Labs announced its full-scale launch. The startup had been operating in stealth mode since its founding.
Agrani Labs was founded by former engineers from AMD and Intel. The team brings deep experience in chip design and large-scale computing systems. Veteran chipmaker Vinod Dham, known as the “Father of the Pentium,” has joined the company as a founding advisor.
Focus on Indigenous AI Chips
The startup is building AI GPUs for enterprise and data centre workloads. Its goal is to support the rising demand for AI computing across industries. This includes use cases like generative AI, machine learning, and large data processing.
Agrani Labs is not limiting itself to hardware alone. It is developing a full-stack platform that includes software, AI frameworks, and developer libraries. This approach helps enterprises deploy AI models faster and at lower cost.
Reducing Dependence on Global Suppliers
The company aims to create an indigenous AI compute solution. It wants to reduce reliance on global chip makers. This focus aligns with India’s broader push to strengthen its local semiconductor ecosystem.
By targeting AI-first chips, Agrani Labs is entering a fast-growing market. Enterprises are now looking for specialised processors instead of general-purpose chips. These processors offer better performance and energy efficiency.
Use of Fresh Capital
Agrani Labs said the funding will support chip development and software expansion. The startup also plans to grow its engineering team. It will prepare for early enterprise pilots in the coming months.
The company is also exploring partnerships with cloud providers and system integrators. These partnerships will help bring its AI solutions to market faster.
Looking Ahead
With a strong founding team and experienced advisors, Agrani Labs aims to become a key player in AI infrastructure. The startup plans to serve both Indian and global customers.
As demand for AI computing grows, Agrani Labs is positioning itself as a homegrown alternative in the global semiconductor space.
